Weekend

I am falling behind on my blogging again I think. Hmm. Oh well get over it!

I found a place here in Alabama. I just drove down to Florida and picked up Mud and all her worldly possessions. I think everyone and their brother were on I-75 Southbound to Florida on Saturday and Sunday. It was horrendous! It took me 11 hours to make an 8 hour trip. I finally got there about 6 pm, they had all her stuff out on the driveway waiting for me. Took maybe 20 minutes to get it all in the uhaul trailer and then we were heading north. I finally stopped for the night in Gainesville and got a hotel room. Mud wanted to stay up and watch some tv so we stayed up for a couple more hours. Traffic Northbound on Sunday wasn't bad at all. Southbound was still backed up for about 30 miles. That had to suck. Glad it wasn't me.

Mud hasn't complained about how small her room is or anything about this place yet. I'm still waiting. She did open the fridge and then call her mom and ask what was supposed to be in a fridge. I decided to take her grocery shopping with me, since the only thing in it was a few sodas, a couple of beers, and a jar of pickles...

Moving Day

The movers came today and packed up all my stuff, threw it in a plywood shipping container, and left. It took less than an hour. Now all I have to do is worry that it will all arrive in Alabama within 70 days. Joy.

The movers did a good job of packing everything. And I mean EVERYTHING!!! I had a coffee cup set aside and a box of tea set aside, they packed those. They also packed my lease paperwork for this apartment. Good thing I don't need it anymore! I guess I should have put that stuff in this room here, since I took all the stuff out of here that was getting shipped. That way I could still have tea. I'll have to go to the store and get more tea. Maybe I'll just see what the hotel has to offer since I will be moving there on Friday night.

I am down to almost 10 days left here. Mud is wanting me to get back really soon. I think she is tired of putting up with her step family. Hopefully they won't have scarred her for life. Maybe she will even want to see her mother again at some point. This year has been rough on her. Time will only tell though.

Florida

Stole this from Mud.

THIS IS FLORIDA AND ONLY FLORIDIANS KNOW THIS...SHARE WITH YOUR FELLOW FLORIDIANS!!
"Down South" means Key West
"Panhandling" means going to Pensacola.
You think no-one over 70 should be allowed to drive.
Flip-flops are everyday wear.
Shoes are for business meetings and church.
No, wait, flip flops are good for church too, unless it's Easter or Christmas.
Sweet tea can be served at any meal.
An alligator once walked through your neighborhood.
You smirk when a game show's "Grand Prize" is a trip or cruise to Florida.
You measure distance in minutes.
You have a drawer full of bathing suits, and one sweatshirt.
You get annoyed at the tourists who feed seagulls.
All the local festivals are named after a fruit.
A mountain is any hill 100 feet above sea level.
You think everyone from a bigger city has a northern accent.
You know the four seasons really are: almost summer, summer, not summer but really hot, and Christmas.
It's not soda, cola, or pop...its coke, regardless of brand or flavor, "What kinda coke you want?"
Anything under 95 is just warm.
Anything under 70 is freezing
You've hosted a hurricane party.
You go to a theme park for an afternoon, and know when to get on the best rides.
You pass on the right and honk at the elderly.
You understand the futility of exterminating 1-800 numbers
You can pronounce Okeechobee, Kissimmee, Withlacoochee, Okahumpka and Loxahatchee.
You understand why it's better to have a friend with a boat, than have a boat yourself.
Bumper stickers on the pickup in front of you include: various fish, NRA, and a confederate flag.
You were 8 before you realized they made houses without pools.
You were 12 when you first met someone who couldn't swim.
You get angry when people say "Florida isn't really part of the SOUTH"
You've worn shorts and used the A/C on Christmas.
You know what the "stingray shuffle" is, and why it's important!
Socks are only for bowling
Orange juice from concentrate makes you vomit
Tap water makes you vomit
You never use an umbrella because you know the rain will be over in five minutes
A good parking place has nothing to do with distance from the store, but everything to do with shade.
Your winter coat is made of denim
You can tell the difference between fire ant bites and mosquito bites
You're younger than thirty but some of your friends are over 65
You've driven through Yeehaw Junction.
You could swim before you could read
You have to drive north to get to The South
You know that no other grocery store can compare to Publix.
Every other house had blue roofs in 2004-2005
You've gotten out of school early on Halloween to trick or treat before it got dark.
You know that anything under a Category 3 just isn't worth waking up for.
You dread lovebug season.
You are on a first name basis with the Hurricane list. They aren't Hurricane Charley, Hurricane Frances...but Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne.
You know what a snowbird is and you hate them.
You know why flamingos are pink.
You think a six-foot alligator is actually pretty average.
You were twelve before you ever saw snow or you still haven't.
Repost if you're a Floridian.

What are you?

Saw this over at The Kat House. Figured I would do it and see. Gimme a holler and let me know which one you are.

You are The Fool

The Fool is the card of infinite possibilities. The bag on the staff indicates that he has all he need to do or be anything he wants, he has only to stop and unpack. He is on his way to a brand new beginning. But the card carries a little bark of warning as well. Stop daydreaming and fantasising and watch your step, lest you fall and end up looking the fool.

Blocked

Looks like they decided to unblock Blogger. Good, now I don't have to go around them! I just wish they would unblock YouTube since it is a pain in the butt going around them!

Today I went on a trail ride on my mountain bike. It earned its designation as a mountain bike today! My knees were screaming at me. My left calf cramped up going up a trail once. I walked up hill a bunch more than I care to admit. When we got back into town I had to stop for a minute and my lower thigh muscles in front cramped up so bad I couldn't hardly walk. Took a few minutes to get going again after that. Overall I had a great time. I wish I had found someone to go riding with earlier. I definitely need to lose some weight also...

If you know my Facebook address you can see a couple of pictures. I didn't wreck or fall over though. That was the other guys!

Make a nice day!!

BAH Humbug!!

OK folks, Blogger is now being blocked by the Turkish government. Why you ask? I ain't got a friggin clue. Here is the message I get when I try to go there without using a workaround.

T.C. Diyarbakır 1. Sulh Ceza Mahkemesi 20.10.2008 tarih ve 2008/2761 sayılı kararı gereği bu siteye erişim engellenmiştir.

Prize!

A few weeks ago I grabbed a large bag of dark chocolate Halloween M&M's on my way to the checkout counter. I love dark chocolate. The only M&M's I prefer to dark chocolate M&M's are Peanut Butter M&M's. Not to be confused with Peanut M&M's. Those are not for me at all.

When I got back to the apartment I threw them in the fridge to keep them cold. Can't have them melting you know!! :P

So last night I got a chocolate craving and remembered that I had them in the fridge. I went and dug them out, opened them up and wondered why they were bigger than normal. I figured it had to do with them being Halloween special colors, etc.

I bit down on the first one and had to grab the bag and read it closer. I had actually picked up a bag of Peanut Butter Halloween M&M's!! Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!

So now I am pigging out on Peanut Butter Halloween M&M's!

Long time

I guess I should do some blogging since Gorgeous did. She posted pictures of when she was here for two weeks. Go check them out then come back. I'll wait...

OK! How do you like those pictures? I think she did an amazing job with the pictures. I was so happy to see her come through the glass doors at the airport. Two weeks went by entirely too quickly. After she left I realized how much I missed her being with me. Good thing is, I only have 47 more days here. Then I get to go back to the land of consumption. I intend to eat me some Popeye's Fried Chicken!

I went to the housing office today and set up several appointments and filled out the paperwork to tell the landlord when I was leaving. Kind of scared me a little. I realized that I am going to have to clean this apartment... I wonder how much a maid would charge to do it? Hmmm...

I better post this before I get sappy, seeing as how I am drinking wine on an empty stomach. Maybe I should eat something.

Ramazan

I'm gonna kill me a little drummer boy!

Ramazan has started and it lasts all month. One of the helpful things some idiot does is go around the neighborhoods beating a drum at 0330 in the morning! Just so people can wake up and go to prayer on time...

If I find me a gun they ain't gonna hear the drummer boy much longer!!!

Counting

10 days until TG gets here. Time seems to go so slow when we want it to go fast, and so fast when we want it to go slow.

Friday, July 25, 2008

Damn People!!

OK People listen up!!

When someone you know lives overseas, that means they are in a different time zone entirely, and I don't mean just an hour or two difference! Depending on where they live you can usually look at a globe and figure out close to what time it is there. After all there are only 24 time zones on this planet! No I am not counting those 30 minute time zones, those are just weird.

Why am I bitching? My best friend from high school called me at 0230 this morning. God knows I love the guy, but come on! He realized that I was in a different time zone when I answered the phone, "huh?" I know, I know, I am such an excellent speaker at that time of day.
He asked me what time it was here and I looked at the clock and told him it was 0230. He said he was sorry and that he would let me go back to sleep, he would call later.

I won't be here Saturday so I will call him Sunday after church. He is staying at his mom's house now so I guess I need to find out what is going on with his life. Last I knew he was married with 2 kids. I'm a bad friend, I haven't talked to him in almost 3 years.

Tell your Pookie you love them, send them flowers and Make a nice day!

Saturday, July 19, 2008

Huh?!?

So yesterday morning at 0530 my phone rings. Who is calling me this fricking early in the morning? Turns out my ex is calling. Crap.

She has a computer problem. Then wtf are you calling me this early for? She can't get the wireless to work on the laptop. I asked a few questions. Then she got to the real reason she called me. "Can I crack a hotmail password?" Uh no. Are there ways to do it? Oh yeah, I just don't do it and I don't know how...

A few minutes later more information is thrown at me. Her husband is cheating on her. Again. I wanted to ask her what she thought about Karma being such a bitch. I am not that type of person though. She asked me where she should go when she leaves him, cause she already told him she was. I told her to call her mom and talk to her. She flat out refused and told me that I had better not say anything to her mom either. I don't pass on gossip or secrets. If someone wants someone else to know something then they will tell them. Not my business.

I figure she will go to her sisters place, but I worry about Mud. How is this going to affect her? Will my ex stay where she is until I get back to the states and pick up Mud and all her stuff? I feel so helpless over here when it comes to Mud. Maybe I can get my ex to take Mud to TG and give her somewhat of a stable environment before I get back.

I need TG to call and talk dirty to me. 54 days until she comes to visit me over here.

Cesme Boat Trip

I went on a day trip today to Cesme. We went out on a boat and had a pretty good time. The boat pulled out and they cranked the Turkish Techno music and the dance party started. Alcohol was not cheap. Lots of people drank alot. We stopped at three different coves. The first one I went ahead and jumped in the water from the second deck. I was sitting there contemplating if I wanted to do it or not. I was scared. What about it?!?! So anyway I finally got the nerve to step up on the rail and just jump. It was only about 20 feet but felt like forever as I was heading toward the water. I finally hit the water, went under flipped over and started for the surface when it hit me that I was swimming in ice water. It was COOOLLLLLDDDDD!!!!! It has been over 100 almost every day for the past 3 weeks and the water is still that cold. Something is wrong. Then I got a taste of it in my mouth. Anyone ever take a lick of a salt lick? I have been to the Atlantic, the Pacific, the Gulf of Mexico, the Persian Gulf, the North Sea, and none of them were this salty!

I could actually float.

Make a nice day!!

A Month?

Dang. It has been a month since my last post already. Time sure flies when you are having fun. I made it home and spent a wonderful 2 weeks with my family. Then I had to leave and come back here. That sucked. But here I am again, 162 days until I go home for good. Not that I am counting...

My trip home. TSA in the international terminal of Atlanta has to be the most idiotic of any that I have come across. You get off your international flight (which has usually been a long flight) and find your way to passport control/immigration, stand in line, finally make it to the counter, get your passport stamped. Then you go to a luggage carousel and pick up your luggage. Make your way to the customs area with your form that they give you on the airplane declaring you ain't got nothing. They take the form and say have a nice day without even glancing at you. You walk through a fricking maze and come to another area where you are required to put your luggage on an assembly belt because you can't carry it through the Atlanta terminal. Turn around and get in another line to go through security. The same security you go through to get into an airport. WTF??!! Ok. Think happy thoughts. You finally make it to the X-ray machine with your laptop in a bin, your shoes and belt in another bin, your carry on in yet another bin. You make it through the X-ray and the TSA woman says, "We got a problem" and they are looking at your carry on. Huh?!? What is the problem? You can only carry 3 ounces of liquids with you! Oh great. I had 3 bottles of ice wine that I bought in the duty free shop in Germany 12 hours ago. Ok, what are my options? 1. You can leave it here. "I don't think so. I'm not giving you freaks that much of a tip for screwing me!" 2. You can go back through security and see the airline counter to see if they will check it for you, put it in a bin, pray that it is still on the luggage carousel on the outside. So thats what I did. I was pissed by then. I didn't tell everyone to fuck off but I wanted to. I ended up having to go through the security thing again then making my way from the farthest terminal to the top of the escalator to see Gorgeous. Finally. Then we went to the luggage carousel and the only thing on it is my wine in a bin and my luggage.

Screw TSA at Atlanta. What a jacked up system.

And I have to go back through it again. AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

Make a nice day.

Naples

First things first, Naples, Italy SUCKS!!! The "Family" has messed it up so bad that if I never go there again it will be too damn soon. There are trash piles everywhere and the people just walk or drive around them. They have nowhere to put it. It isn't like you see one small pile of trash on the street corner, no they have piles EVERYWHERE that are 20 feet long, 10 feet wide, and probably 6 to 8 feet high! The rich areas (where the Family lives) doesn't have any trash piled up. Course I didn't go knock on any doors and ask what they did with their trash. I much preferred Rome to Naples. Hell I prefer Izmir, Turkey to Naples!!! Izmir is cleaner! One of the German guys that was with me stated that he was going to kiss the ground when he got back to Izmir.

OK. Mini rant over. I can now say that I have eaten pizza in a little outdoor cafe, had Vermicelli all Carbonara, and a Limoncella shot on the seaside of Naples. Been there, done that, skipped the tshirt, ain't going back!

Oh and something I noticed when I was in the Munich airport terminal walking around waiting for my next flight, they have a sex shop in there. Dildo's, vibrators, oils, and lingerie all on display in the store windows.
No I did not go in. I looked at the displays as I walked past it to the bathrooms.

Make a nice day!

Packing

I am packing to leave again. I am going to Naples, Italy this time. Where they are having garbage issues. Evidently they no longer have anywhere to put it. The weather is heating up. Oh happy happy joy joy! At least I didn't have to catch the 5:05 am flight! My ride is picking me up at 1 pm today. Some of the other guys that are going caught a 6:15 am flight so they will already be there at the hotel drunk by the time I get there. I fly back to Izmir on Friday morning and get back in the afternoon. On the way there and back I get to go through Munich since I am flying on Lufthansa. I wanted to go on this route so that I can see part of my route that I will be taking home in 15 days. Seems like 6 months have absolutely flown by! Time to get back to packing.

Give your pookie a hug and a snuggle and make a nice day!!

P.S. I hope everyone remembered to call their Mother's yesterday!

Beauty

It seems odd to me that I noticed a very nice smell in the air a few days ago. Thought maybe honeysuckle but I haven't located it yet. Then yesterday on my walk home I noticed that there are blooming rose bushes almost everywhere! All different colors. All of them beautiful. I can smell them easily over the smell of the city. I hope they can stay blooming the rest of the time I am here.

Performance

I have been trying to do my annual performance report. It sucks that I can't get anything from my last duty station. They won't answer my emails. I had to eat a few TUMS because of this. Not to mention they changed the EPR form and this is my first one of this type. Just a lovely time. I will have to put my rater off until Monday I guess and do everything I can on it this weekend. I can't use anything from my previous station unless they send a letter of evaluation, and trying to get that 4 months after leaving is kind of hard. Hell trying to remember what I did 12 months ago at work is difficult. If I were still there I could go through my emails and jog my memory about stuff. Now I am just screwed I think. Too bad I can't tell them to just skip it this year.

Romania

Ok. I could definitely live here in Bucharest. I have told Gorgeous this already. She told me no. The reason she said no? The same reason I could live here. There are so many absolutely physically beautiful women. Do I know them on a personal level? Hell no! Do I want to? Hell no! They might speak and ruin all my fantasies! Besides I have Gorgeous now!

But I have been here a week and the people have all been nice. I don't want to go back to Turkey. It sucks there. Ok, maybe not sucks, but the women don't look like this. You see a blond in Turkey and you automatically think they are from somewhere else.

I will stop whining. I took pictures of the buildings, not the women. I'll post them when I get back. A lot of the buildings are leftover from the communist era. They are old and appear to be in bad condition, but the people are all happy. I think that is the main reason I could live here pretty easily. People are Happy.

Make a nice day!!

I made it here. Got to go around all day and visit stuff. Took some pictures. The Parliament building is a huge frikkin building!!!

Thats all I got for now. Make a Nice Day!!

Packing

Well I'm packing my suitcase again. I have a ride coming to pick me up at 0330 in the morning and I am still sitting here at the computer, listening to the dryer run. When it finishes I can move the clothes from the washer over and start another load washing. All so I can have clean clothes on my trip. Where am I going this time? What is the big thing in the news right now concerning NATO? The NATO Summit in Bucharest. So that is where I am going. It sucks that I have to get up that early to catch a plane to get there that early in the day when I don't have to start work until Sunday. Hopefully I can get situated in the hotel and stuff. I don't even know if I am supposed to wear civilian clothes back and forth to the site. I feel like I am so unprepared. Time to move the laundry around.

Make a Nice Day.

Balmy

Well the weather here isn't quite balmy yet but it is warming up. I haven't been blogging lately cause what do I say? I miss TG a lot. I miss not being able to jump in the car and run to Wal-Mart at 10 pm. I miss TACO BELL!!!! Jeez. You'd think they would have some kind of mexican restaurant here at least, but NO. You get all the dang shish kebab and döner you want, but try to find a damn taco! Oh and there is only one, 1, ONE, chinese restaurant. It isn't a buffet either. Anyone help me out? Know where there is a Taco Bell in Izmir, Turkey? Come on people, I'm jonesing here!!

Make a nice day and tell your special pookie that you love them.

I LOVE YOU GORGEOUS!!!!!

Weather

Ok, I guess the weather here is just like the weather where I grew up. Last Sunday it was colder than a witch's tit with a brass nipple ring, and this week it is sunny and in the mid 60's. Go figure. So I decided to take a picture from the same place I took the other pictures last week in order for you to see the difference. :)

WTF?

Guess what I woke up to this morning? Go on guess. I'll give you a minute to think about it. Nevermind I'll just tell you. Snow. Yep snow in Izmir. Cold, windy as all get out, and snow. I tried taking a picture of the snow flying through the air in the wind, but they didn't turn out. I got pictures of the small amount of snow on the ground. Here are the pictures. I could have done without snow. I hate snow. Well I don't hate snow, I hate the lack of heat that creates the conditions that allow snow to be created. Yeah I know, "Quit whining about a little bit of snow!" It's my blog and I'll whine if I want to!!

Weekend Getaway

Last weekend I went to Pamukkale (pah mook a lay) and Hieropolis. It was cold and foggy for the most part, but this is definitely the off season. I got to take off my shoes and walk out on the white terraces and travertines. That stuff was cold on the feet, and I got my feet back into the hot thermal water pretty quick. I took a bunch of pictures which are in Snapfish. If you didn't get the invite to it drop me a line and provide an email address.

Yes I am still alive, just haven't blogged.

Quick and Dirty

Had to go to Italy for a training class. Took a day of leave in Rome afterward. Took over 200 pictures. They are posted in Snapfish. I invited everyone that had previously requested access. If you want to see them drop me a line somehow with an email address.

Dang

Why is it time flies when you are having fun, but stops cold when you aren't? I have 133 days left before I fly back to the states for the wedding. I thought I was at 133 days last week. Crap.

Last Saturday the group from church decided to go to Lake Bafa. So I went with them and took pictures. We climbed all over the ruins of what I was told was an old monastery. There was also a Temple of Athena, I think it was. It was cold out because of the wind mostly. I already sent out the link in Snapfish to everyone of the pictures. If you want to see them shoot me an email. One of the guys gave me a cd with all the pictures he took. He has a very nice camera!! I'll see about getting those posted in Snapfish too. They are bigger in file size than mine.

Make a nice day!
