Good Day?

We took the rugrats to Six Flags White Water today. Was supposed to be a great time. Due to the number of people there and the fact that they lost power to most of the water pumps, it wasn't. Then when everyone was leaving they were giving out rain checks because of the power outage. Every single person that was in any line at all in the park was there waiting to get one before they left. Took forever to get out of the park and that was skipping the rain check. Yeah, great time. I honestly can't recommend the water park to anyone. Maybe some other time, but I doubt it.

On the job news, I am still hunting for a job. Have gotten into a habit of looking at Monster, USAJobs, and Hotjobs every morning. I apply for all of them that I think I am capable of doing. So far I am just a reject. Haven't found any IT jobs in my local area yet, but I am keeping an eye and ear out for any possibilities.

Scaredy cat

I am at the point where I am scared to death. I start my terminal leave on 2 July which means I won't have the same income when my retirement date of 1 Sept rolls around. I NEED A F'in JOB!!! How do people do this? I have been thinking that maybe it would be a good idea to try to cancel my retirement and stay a couple more years. Then again I want to live with Gorgeous and the kids for once. Anyone know of an IT job in Atlanta for a retired USAF guy with 22 years of experience, a CISSP certification, and a Top Secret clearance? This uncertainty is scaring the crap out of me.

It has been 5 years since Os started this craze of HNT. It has been a while since I participated. I got lazy. Sue me. Home

I finally made it home. Spent a couple weeks with Gorgeous and the kids and now I am back in Alabama. At least for 6 weeks. Then I will be retired. Scares the crap out of me. I need to find a job so I can pay the bills when I am retired. It would be better if I just won the lottery for $40 or 50 million. I think I could make ends meet with that.

HNT turns 5 years old on Thursday. Os has made a special request for it and I believe I am going to play along.

Passing time

So here I am, a month away from going home. So far time seems to have flown by for me. There have been issues at home. Some good, some bad. I put in my paperwork for retirement, which was accepted. Now I worry about whether or not I will get a job that will pay all the bills and also be able to keep that job in this economy. So many worries.

I found out the other day that my replacement got canceled. I'm not sure if they are sending someone else or doing away with my position. I have been told that I will be going home on time regardless. I'll see if that holds true.

I am progressing with chainmaille. At least playing with different patterns and such. I have finished the bulk of my shirt. I still have to attach the sleeves which are currently short sleeves. I think I will make them long at some point, not sure when though. I also need to fill in the neck area some to give it a nicer appearance. I hope I can fit it in my luggage when I head back. At least if my bag is too heavy I can take it off and wear it. Might give the security folks a headache, but fuck em. I don't give a rats butt about them.

Birthday

Well I finally did it. I hit the big 40. Managed to get by with no party , no black balloons, nothing. Hehe. I guess when you go to the other side of the world away from family and friends you can do that.

I have some friends that I went to high school with, twins, whose birthday is a week after mine. I emailed one of their daughters with "helpful" suggestions about gifts and decorations for a party. I'm waiting for a knife in the back from them next week at this time.

Hobby

I finally finished the first chainmaille bikini for Gorgeous. I figured I would post it so everyone can see how productive I am over here in Kosovo.

Kitty

Unfortunately Kitty passed away yesterday. The vet called Gorgeous shortly after I signed off for the night to inform her that Kitty had started taking deep breaths and they thought she was having another seizure so they got her out of the cage and held her. That is when she finally passed away.

Today Gorgeous and her father buried Kitty in the backyard. I will be able to visit her when I get home. I will miss her a great deal. I have had her since she was a kitten 12 years ago. She started out as Molly then Fluffytail, and finally settled on Kitty. It seems like she was always around but never in the way. Unless she was hungry.

Mud didn't handle the news very well. She was on the phone with Gorgeous for an hour or so since she is with her mother for Christmas. I tried calling today but couldn't get through since all the lines were busy. Maybe tomorrow I can get through.

Death

I am losing something that I Love very much. I am powerless to stop it. Time waits for no one and death is inevitable. I haven't had to do this in many years. The last time it happened I cried for hours. I am now fighting back tears because of this. It seems as though Kitty has grown too old with too much fat and now she is having seizures. The vet has her on IV's. She can't eat, she cant drink, and she can't even move. She is unable to lift her head. When Gorgeous visits with her, she purrs and tries to love on her, but can't. The vet thinks that if she doesn't get better tomorrow, then it is unlikely that she will. I can barely say it, but we are going to have to put her to sleep tomorrow. I can't even hold her and tell her how much I will miss her being around, rub her fat belly one more time.

Snow

In the past 3 hours it has snowed 2 inches. It is supposed to continue snowing through Saturday. I hope it doesn't. Sure it is pretty and all, but it really sucks to have to go out in it.

Winter

I woke up to snow on the ground this morning. Only about an inch so far but it is still snowing. It is supposed to snow all day today and all day tomorrow, then warm up on Monday. I guess we will find out if the weather folks are any good in their forecasts.

The more things change...

Saturday night saw some unwanted excitement over here. Seems that a German soldier who was going home on Monday didn't want to go home. Evidently he lost his father when he had been here for about two months and then a couple of weeks ago his grandfather passed away as well. So instead of talking to anyone about it, he walked out of the Irish pub and in the middle of the main thoroughfare put his weapon to his head and pulled the trigger. The folks who saw it said there was not much left of his skull. The BX has a bullet hole in the side of the building now as well.

I didn't even know this young man, but I wish I would have been able to talk to him. Somethings will never change. I pray that God grants him peace and forgiveness and gives his family the strength to move on.

Nothing

I got nothing today. It is slowly getting colder here. I need a haircut but I don't want to get one cause then my head will be cold.

I finished a string of byzantine and turned it into a necklace. I have been wearing it cause I am too lazy to take it off. I need to figure out a clasp for it. I got about 3/4th's of the front of my chainmail shirt done. I have started on the shoulder area. I don't have enough material here to finish it though, so I will have to order some or wait until I get home. Just another day in paradise here. I think I hear the beach boys...
