I finally finished the first chainmaille bikini for Gorgeous. I figured I would post it so everyone can see how productive I am over here in Kosovo.

Kitty

Unfortunately Kitty passed away yesterday. The vet called Gorgeous shortly after I signed off for the night to inform her that Kitty had started taking deep breaths and they thought she was having another seizure so they got her out of the cage and held her. That is when she finally passed away.

Today Gorgeous and her father buried Kitty in the backyard. I will be able to visit her when I get home. I will miss her a great deal. I have had her since she was a kitten 12 years ago. She started out as Molly then Fluffytail, and finally settled on Kitty. It seems like she was always around but never in the way. Unless she was hungry.

Mud didn't handle the news very well. She was on the phone with Gorgeous for an hour or so since she is with her mother for Christmas. I tried calling today but couldn't get through since all the lines were busy. Maybe tomorrow I can get through.

Death

I am losing something that I Love very much. I am powerless to stop it. Time waits for no one and death is inevitable. I haven't had to do this in many years. The last time it happened I cried for hours. I am now fighting back tears because of this. It seems as though Kitty has grown too old with too much fat and now she is having seizures. The vet has her on IV's. She can't eat, she cant drink, and she can't even move. She is unable to lift her head. When Gorgeous visits with her, she purrs and tries to love on her, but can't. The vet thinks that if she doesn't get better tomorrow, then it is unlikely that she will. I can barely say it, but we are going to have to put her to sleep tomorrow. I can't even hold her and tell her how much I will miss her being around, rub her fat belly one more time.

Snow

In the past 3 hours it has snowed 2 inches. It is supposed to continue snowing through Saturday. I hope it doesn't. Sure it is pretty and all, but it really sucks to have to go out in it.

A dude on a riding snowblower just went past my window.

Winter

I woke up to snow on the ground this morning. Only about an inch so far but it is still snowing. It is supposed to snow all day today and all day tomorrow, then warm up on Monday. I guess we will find out if the weather folks are any good in their forecasts.

The more things change...

Saturday night saw some unwanted excitement over here. Seems that a German soldier who was going home on Monday didn't want to go home. Evidently he lost his father when he had been here for about two months and then a couple of weeks ago his grandfather passed away as well. So instead of talking to anyone about it, he walked out of the Irish pub and in the middle of the main thoroughfare put his weapon to his head and pulled the trigger. The folks who saw it said there was not much left of his skull. The BX has a bullet hole in the side of the building now as well.

I didn't even know this young man, but I wish I would have been able to talk to him. Somethings will never change. I pray that God grants him peace and forgiveness and gives his family the strength to move on.

Nothing

I got nothing today. It is slowly getting colder here. I need a haircut but I don't want to get one cause then my head will be cold.

I finished a string of byzantine and turned it into a necklace. I have been wearing it cause I am too lazy to take it off. I need to figure out a clasp for it. I got about 3/4th's of the front of my chainmail shirt done. I have started on the shoulder area. I don't have enough material here to finish it though, so I will have to order some or wait until I get home. Just another day in paradise here. I think I hear the beach boys...

Dark

This sucks! It is 1630L and dark already! WTF is wrong with that? I'm not talking about the sun is going down, I'm talking the streetlights have come on and where they aren't it is pitch black. Why does the sun have to start going down at 1530L? This is going to be a long winter I think.

Kosovo

Well after a very uncomfortable flight from Atlanta to Frankfurt and then a search all over Frankfurt's airport trying to find Malev Airlines(Thank God I didn't have to get all my bags and shuffle them around with me, they actually got transferred all the way here)and then an uncomfortable flight to Budapest, a very fast run through Budapest Airport to make my connecting flight to Pristina, I made it.

Surprisingly my bags all made it as well. They were the first ones on the conveyor belt too. What does that tell you? They almost didn't make the flight to Pristina! Anyway, my sponsor and another guy met me right outside the airport by calling out my name before I ever saw them. Seems strange seeing USAF guys wearing 9MM Beretta's at a commercial airport in a former eastern bloc country. Tomorrow I get to be one of the guys carrying while we take the guy I am replacing to the airport so he can go home. He is going home a different route. Pristina to Switzerland to Paris to Atlanta. Maybe I'll get that route when I leave as well. Put some more pins in the map.

The weather here when I got off the plane was dick shriveling cold even with a winter coat on. It warmed up today although it has been very windy. I am actually glad that I had to bring all the cold weather gear the USAF issued me. I think I am going to need it.

Leaving Again

Tomorrow I leave to go overseas again. I hate that i have to leave my family once again. I had planned to retire at the end of this year and then we could actually live together, something we haven't done since we got married. At least I know there is an end in sight. I will be putting in my retirement paperwork while I am over there. So that when I come back I will only have 2 months or so until I start my terminal leave. Then I will get a job and hopefully make enough money to be happy.

I am selling my Envoy as well. I don't want to make payments for 6 months and then try to trade it in with as many miles as it has. Might as well sell it now and save the payments for a down payment on one when I get back.

Also I have to take 4 bags of military stuff with me to Kosovo. None of them are light, and I am required to take all of them. I fly out of Atlanta to Frankfurt where I will undoubtedly have to get my bags and transfer them to another airline, going through security with them again. From Frankfurt I fly to Budapest, and then on to my final destination of Pristina. From Frankfurt on I am flying Malev Airlines so hopefully I won't have to transfer my bags anymore.

Mud is going to stay with Gorgeous for Thanksgiving, but her mother wants her for Christmas break. I am hoping that she doesn't try to keep her after that. Mud is doing so good here that I don't want anything to happen to stop it. She had a "friend" over last night for Halloween. We had to have a talk with Mud about acting appropriately with "friends" since she was hanging all over him. Told her if she ever wanted to have "friends" over again it won't happen anymore. She was also forbidden from visiting him at his house. I was good though, I didn't shoot him, or hang him by his thumbs. Thought about doing that to Mud, but I refrained.

Time for me to go try to cram some clothes in those damn green bags.

I found out on Thursday that I passed the certification test for CISSP. I think I scared the whole office when I got the email that said Congratulations instead of We regret to inform you... Now all I have to do is a CV Resume. First I gotta figure out the format, then remember everything I have done in the past. Anyone ever done one of these?

Rolled the dice, got snake eyes...

I was playing the waiting game for my security clearance reinvestigation to come back before dropping my retirement paperwork. I just got snake eyes. I get to go to Kosovo for 6 months. Great. Guess I will take my camera and see what I can see there. At least the AF will pay my house payment while I am there. I can put in my retirement paperwork at any time, so I have more time to wait for my PR to close out. Sometimes I wonder if I made the right decision to wait for my clearance to get redone. I'll try to make the best out of it.

House

We are in the house now. Been doing all the little chores that makes it ours. Little pond out front, a door bell, painting the bedroom, redoing the master bathroom. All the fun little things. I am heading back to Alabama in a few hours, maybe then I can get some rest... :D

Stress

I had to go see a shrink last month. I started out going to the clinic to figure out why I was forgetting things. It got to the point that I would wake up and not know where I was. I wouldn't recognize anything in my room. Finally after talking to the shrink it was determined that the amount of stress I was dealing with was causing it. Once that got figured out I was told how to deal with it, and my memory loss has subsided quite a bit. I still forget words sometimes, but at least I know where I am when I wake up.

We closed on a house last week. Now I just have to figure out how to pay for it.

Busy

I thought I had just blogged the other day. Time sure flies when you are busy. Have been busy doing everything. Sure is nice to get some fast food whenever you want. PapaJohn's and Dominoes have my credit card number. :D

Mud decided on Friday that she was a vegetarian. Ok. So we went to Arby's for dinner where she chose to have a roast beef with cheese. "One last omnivore meal" She hasn't been eating real well since then since she refused to eat meat. She asked about hummus, so I was going to get her some. She looked at it and decided that she didn't really want it. Tonight we went grocery shopping and she said she wanted some of the vegetarian hotdogs. We got a pack of them. I told her she had to eat all of them and not let them go to waste. When we got home she nuked one and put it in a bun with ketchup. She had two bites and got the salt. She ate two more bites and said it was too disgusting to finish. I told her she had to finish that one and she had seven more to go. She refused and I informed her that it was time to make a decision since she had to eat properly. She could finish her hotdog and continue to eat the rest of them and be a vegetarian. If she chose not to finish then she would not be a vegetarian at home. She could be one at school all she wants. She decided to throw her hotdog away and helped me finish off the chicken and dumplings. Then she finished the mashed potatoes and gravy.

I had to text Gorgeous and let her know Mud's decision...
